About

Throughout their lives, both Jason and Ellisa have felt called to serve overseas. Jason spent several years living and working in Honduras and Haiti, while Ellisa has participated in numerous medical mission trips across several countries in Africa. As they began their life together, they prayed for an opportunity to serve side by side as a couple. They believe God has answered that prayer by leading them to Soddo.

Our Work

As a family medicine physician with specialized obstetrical training, Ellisa works in several different capacities at the hospital. She has clinical work in the OB department and trains Ethiopian mid-wives and PAACS medical residents.

In addition, the Ethiopian medical community has requested a Family Practice Residency be started at Soddo in the coming years. Ellisa is excited to be part of the team to build the residency. For more information on the hospital, visit https://www.soddo.org and for more information on the Pan African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS), visit https://paacs.net/welcome.html.

Jason's Work

Jason is a registered architect in the state of Texas, and works on the Construction & Engineering Department at the hospital.  Maintenance and redesign of existing buildings is constant, especially with an increasing patient census at the hospital.

Also, Soddo Christian Hospital is growing!  Specifically, in the form of a new hospital campus consisting of a maternal child health hospital, administration and auxiliary buildings.  Jason has been managing the design team, anticipating a construction start date in fall of 2026.

The City

The hospital is located in Sodo, a city of roughly 200,000 people, in southwestern Ethiopia (about 200 miles from Addis Ababa). It is the center of the Wolaitta region, which has about 2.5 million inhabitants and is one of the most populated and impoverished parts of Ethiopia. Sodo sits at an elevation of 6,700 feet and consists of a relatively densely developed urban area surrounded by small farms, all built to conform to the topography of the surrounding hills.

Soddo Christian Hospital's mission is to provide excellent medical care with compassion in the name of Jesus Christ. It has been serving the city of Sodo and the surrounding region since the 1970’s and has been serving at its current location since 2005. The 139-bed hospital offers a wide range of services including inpatient and outpatient care for adult and pediatric patients, maternity and obstetric care, as well as general and orthopedic surgery. The hospital has served over 400,000 patients with over 85,000 operations performed and more than 12,000 babies delivered. For more information, please visit https://www.soddo.org

Our Mission
PAACS White Coat 2026.jpeg

The mission of Soddo Christian Hospital is to "heal and make disciples of Christ."

We are privileged to labor together, alongside our Ethiopian colleagues in the ministry and work of the hospital.

And Jesus sent them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God and heal the sick, Luke 9:2

Partner With Us

Placing missionaries on the field involves a special and significant partnership, one where God connects His people and His resources with His plan. It is only with your prayer, encouragement and financial support that we are able to go. We are importantly asking for your prayers as we continue a calling that is more than what we can understand or imagine. We are taking each step only because the Lord goes before us, and we desperately need you to pray for us and the work we will be doing.

We also ask you to prayerfully consider financially partnering with us in our work, with recurring monthly financial support or one-time gift. The missionary physicians are not paid by the hospital, in order to keep the hospital costs low for the patients. Your financial support is given through our sending organization, Christian Health Service Corps, a 501c3 and all contributions are tax deductible.

In addition, Soddo Christian Hospital benevolence funds are raised by each physician, to contribute to the hospital. Your partnership also supplies the benevolence fund to further assist patients directly with their medical needs who would otherwise not be able to pay for their care.
