Krumms In Ethiopia
Serving at Soddo Christian Hospital
After much prayer and discussion, we feel the next chapter of our lives will be in Sodo, Ethiopia! Ellisa, Jason, and Elianna will be serving at Soddo Christian Hospital through a medical mission organization called Christian Health Service Corps (CHSC) https://www.healthservicecorps.org. We want to share with you a little more about our hopes there.

About
Individually, both Jason and Ellisa have felt called to overseas work throughout their lives. Jason has lived and worked in
Honduras and Haiti, both for several years, and Ellisa has done numerous medical trips to multiple countries in Africa. Now together, they have dreamed of a place they could serve as a couple, and Soddo has answered that prayer.
What We Hope To Do
As a family medicine physician with specialized obstetrical training, Ellisa will work in several different capacities at the hospital. She will have clinical work in the OB department to train Ethiopian mid-wife staff and PAACS medical residents. In addition, the Ethiopian medical community has requested a Family Practice Residency be started at Soddo in the coming years. Ellisa is excited to be part of the team to build the residency. For more information on the hospital, visit https://www.soddo.org and for more information on the Pan African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS), visit https://paacs.net/welcome.html.

Ellisa's Work
Jason's Work
As an architect, Jason will be working with Msaada, a non-proft, faith-based architectural firm that designs churches, schools & hospitals in the developing world. Founded in 1980 in Tanzania, Msaada has designed over 1,000 projects in 29 countries. Msaada, which means assistance in Swahili, also designed several projects for Soddo Christian Hospital. Jason has collaborated with Msaada beginning in 2004, including recent work on the dormitory for medical residents at Soddo. For more infomation, please visit: https://www.msaadaarchitects.org.

The Hospital

The City

The hospital is located in Sodo, a city of roughly 200,000 people, in southwestern Ethiopia (about 200 miles from Addis Ababa). It is the center of the Wolaitta region, which has about 2.5 million inhabitants and is one of the most populated and impoverished parts of Ethiopia. Sodo sits at an elevation of 5,250’ and consists of a relatively densely developed urban area surrounded by small farms, all built to conform to the topography of the surrounding hills.
Soddo Christian Hospital's mission is to provide excellent medical care with compassion in the name of Jesus Christ. It has been serving the city of Sodo and the surrounding region since the 1970’s and has been serving at its current location since 2005. The 139-bed hospital offers a wide range of services including inpatient and outpatient care for adult and pediatric patients, maternity and obstetric care, as well as general and orthopedic surgery. The hospital has served over 330,000 patients with over 68,000 operations performed and more than 10,000 babies delivered. For more information, please visit https://www.soddo.org.

Our Mission
We believe in partnering alongside Ethiopian workers in delivering excellent medical care with dignity to patients, and in building structures that allow people to heal, learn, and praise. We also believe in working ourselves out of a job, and are hoping to help train others in the fields we've been called to. Ellisa is committed to training, teaching, and serving the patients and the medical staff of Soddo Christian Hospital, and Jason is dedicated to contributing to the growing infrastructure of the Sodo community. Both are excited to work alongside Ethiopians while sharing the joy that God has put in their hearts.

The Krumms anticipate arriving in Ethiopia
in June 2023, after attending a required pre-field training in May 2023.

We need a team with us, sending us out as your hands and feet. We need multiple and diverse partnerships, and are excited to see who is on this journey with us. We are grateful for any monthly partnership, be it more or less!

The missionary physicians are not paid by the hospital, in order to keep the hospital costs low for the patients. In addition, Soddo Christian Hospital benevolence funds are raised by each physician, to contribute to the hospital. The benevolence fund further assists patients who would otherwise not be able to pay for their care.

Partner With Us
Placing missionaries on the field involves a special and significant partnership, one where God connects His people and His resources with His plan. It is only with your prayer, encouragement and financial support that we are able to go. We are importantly asking for your prayers as we embark upon a calling that is more than what we can understand or imagine. We are taking each step only because the Lord goes before us, and we desperately need you to pray for us and the work we will be doing.
We also ask you to prayerfully consider financially partnering with us in our work, with recurring monthly financial support or through a one-time donation to our start-up costs. Any contributions given prior to our arrival will be applied towards our start-up costs. We anticipate arriving in Ethiopia in late May 2023, after required pre-field training in March and April 2023.
